There was commotion inside a South Kolkata shopping mall Wednesday when the body of a man - said to be an agent of a deposit mobilisation firm who committed suicide - was brought there.

The police said the mall is owned by the deposit mobilisation firm with which the man was engaged.

The man committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house at Belgharia in North 24 Parganas district.

He was taken to the R.G. Kar Medical College Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Family members of the victim said he took his life as investors were daily pressurising him to return the money he had collected from them.

The body was taken to the mall to protest against the owner for not providing the money to the agent so that he could return it to the investors.

West Bengal was rocked by its biggest scandal in April when the Saradha group of companies closed shop across the state when it was unable to pay back depositors, many belonging to poor sections of society who parked their life's savings with the company after being lured by the promise of huge returns.

As the company went bust, many agents and investors committed suicide, and protests took place across the state.
