Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat has been nominated the new US ambassador to Bangladesh, a media report quoted a White House statement as saying.
She will replace present US envoy in Dhaka, Dan Mozena, when her appointment is finalised.
US embassy spokesperson in Dhaka Kelly McCarthy said that Mozena's tenure would end when his "successor is confirmed and ready to arrive in Bangladesh", bdnews24.com reported Saturday.
Bernicat served in the Department of State as Office Director for India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Bhutan in the Bureau of South Asian Affairs from 2006 to 2008.
She is currently Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Human Resources at the Department of State, a position she has held since 2012.
