The capital city of Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 42.8 degrees Celsius Thursday, the day's highest in Odisha, an official said.

The intense heat of the past few days also continued to sear many parts of the state with both Angul and Bhabanipatna recording a maximum temperature of 42.7 degrees Celsius, the second highest temperature of the day in the state, an official of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre told IANS.

Day temperatures have remained above 40 degrees Celsius in most parts of the state.

Over half a dozen cities that Thursday recorded high temperatures included Titilagarh (42.5 degrees), Sambalpur (41.7 degrees), Bolangir (41.8 degrees) Talcher (41.2 degrees) and Chandbali (41.9 degrees), the weather office said.

The intense heat condition is unlikely to change for the next two days, although rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in one or two places, the official said.
