A police team was fired upon by suspected illicit quarry workers on Sunday in Bihar's Rohtas district, an official said.
Superintendent of Police Shivdip Lande, who was leading the raid, said the team was fired at in Gopi Bigaha village of the district.
Police destroyed a number of stone-crushers and seized three generator sets.
He said no police personnel was injured in the incident.
It was not immediately known if anyone was arrested in connection with the firing.
A large number of illegal stone crusher units allegedly operate in Rohtas, and are also involved in illegal mining in protected forest areas.
