The deputy mayor of Gaya town in Bihar, who was arrested with two minor call girls from a hotel room here, was Tuesday sent to 14 days' judicial custody, police said.
Deputy mayor Mohan Srivastava was arrested Monday night from the hotel during a police raid. Gaya is about 100 km from Patna.
"Srivastava was caught along with two minor call girls in a hotel room after a tip-off," said Patna Superintendent of Police Jayant Kant.
Srivastava was Tuesday evening presented before the Patna civil court which sent him to 14 days' judicial custody.
"Srivastava was sent to jail on charges of human trafficking," Kant said.
Six people, including the deputy mayor, were arrested in connection with a sex racket when police raided a hotel near Frazer Road in the heart of Patna.
They were taken to a police station for questioning.
Another police official said Srivastava was in Patna Monday to attend a meeting with a visiting team of the 14th Finance Commission.
"The commission team met representatives of panchayats and urban civic bodies of the state to know about the financial help for development," the official said.
Hundreds of people in Gaya burnt an effigy of Srivastava and demanded stern action against him.
"Srivastava should immediately resign from his post or he should be removed by the authorities," said social activist Shahnawaj Shah.
Last month, police busted a thriving sex racket at a men's hair cutting parlour in Gaya that was running on a premises owned by Srivastava.
Srivastava, however, denied ownership of the premises. He later said the premises belonged to his wife and that he has nothing to do with the property.
