The Central Bureau of Investigation nabbed a Bureau of Indian Standards scientist while accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000, an official said here on Wednesday.
According to a complainant, the bribe was sought by the BIS official over an issue with the expired licence of a mineral water bottling plant in April 2014.
The BIS carried out a search of the water plant which was closed. Yet, it prosecuted the plant's owner who was later acquitted by a magistrate in Wardha.
At this stage, a BIS scientist demanded a bribe of Rs.50,000, failing which the case against the company would be pursued in Delhi.
After negotiations, the bribe amount was agreed at Rs.15,000 and the scientist was nabbed while accepting the money from the complainant.
He was presented before a court and sent to police custody till March 12.
The CBI raided the residence of the scientist and recovered certain documents pertaining to his investments.
