The Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday accused the central government of "not doing anything for farmers" and instead showing "fake concern" on their issues.
Intervening in a debate on the drought conditions in several parts of the country, the Congress leader angrily said that "it was not right to (make) claim without doing anything".
"To say that only we are concerned for farmers is not right. The (then) Congress government waived off loans of Rs.72,000 crore of the farmers. It also gave them good prices for their farm produce," he said, asking Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu what the BJP government had done for agriculturalists since May 2014.
"Now, they want to become champions of the farmers," the Congress leader remarked.
The house witnessed several adjournments during the day over the National Herald case.
