The BJP was ahead of the Smajawadi Party in the vote count of the mayoral by-poll in Ghaziabad on Tuesday, officials said.
There are 12 candidate in the fray but the main contest is between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Smajawadi Party.
By the 14th round of the 20 rounds of vote count, the BJP's Ashu Verma was ahead of the SP's Sudan Rawat by over 30,000 votes.
