Goa Facebooker Devu Chodankar, the first Facebook user to be booked for posting allegedly controversial updates on the social network after the 2014 Lok Sabha election, has condemned Pune techie Mohsin Shaikh's murder.

A mob killed the techie June 2 after morphed controversial photos of Shivaji Maharaj and deceased Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray went viral on Facebook.

"Words are not enough to condemn the murder of the techie in Pune. This is the same mentality which they wanted to see me in jail," shipbuilding professional Devu Chodankar, 32, said in his Facebook update.

Chodankar was booked for uploading controversial comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. Police plans to arrest him were foiled after civil society protests last week.

Chodankar said the deadly attack on the techie, 28-year-old Mohsin Shaikh, by members of the Hindu Rashtra Sena (HRS) earlier this week could be sign of things to come.

Pune police have claimed Mohsin was in no way connected to the uploaded images.

"(This is) certainly not the India the founding fathers of this nation envisioned," said Chodankar, grilled by the Goa Police Crime Branch for nearly seven hours Monday.

Days after the Chodankar episode in Goa, Karnataka police arrested three people for posting anti-Modi comments.
