Defence Minister Arun Jaitley has directed ministry officials to start the process of bringing out the Indian Army's war history in various formats.

An official statement Wednesday said the formats will include print, digital and celluloid.

"Considering the enormity of the participation of Indian soldiers in the First World War and the number of battles our soldiers have been privy to, the effort would help in educating future generations on the subject," Jaitley was quoted as saying in the statement.

Over 1.1 million Indian soldiers participated in World War I from 1914 to 1919, and nearly 70,000 lost their lives.
