Border Security Force personnel seized 1.16 kg of gold ornaments worth more than Rs 33.55 lakh from West Bengal's Nadia district, an official said on Saturday.
Acting on a tip off about gold smuggling, the BSF troopers of Vijaypur outpost in Krishnanagar sector challenged a man on Friday evening. He fled leaving behind a bicycle and a bag. The BSF personnel seized the gold ornaments from the bag, said BSF's Deputy Inspector General, South Bengal Frontier, R.P.S. Jaswal.
"The BSF seized 1.16 kg of gold bangles, necklaces, lockets, ear ring, chain and other ornaments worth Rs 33.55 lakh," he added.
The BSF has so far seized a total of 19.54 kg of gold worth more than Rs 5.57 crore and apprehended seven smugglers in 2017.
