The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Wednesday approved four-laning of the Porbandar-Dwarka section of the National Highway-8E in Gujarat, Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal said.

The decision was taken at the CCEA meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Talking to reporters here after the meeting, Goyal said the project would involve around 117 km of road and would cost around Rs 1,958.88 crore.

This includes cost for land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities.

The Minister said the project would not only expedite the pace of socio-economic development in the region, but was also crucial from the point of view of tourism.

"It would also increase employment potential for local labourers for project activities."

Goyal said the project is estimated to generate around 4,80,000 man-days of employment potential during the construction period, with each kilometre of the highway estimated to require 4,076 man-days.

"The project will help in expediting the improvement of infrastructure in Gujarat and in reducing the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying between Porbandar-Dwarka section," a statement from the Road Transport and Highway Ministry said.
