The union cabinet was on Wednesday briefed about an agreement state-run Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Department of Space signed with the Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research (KISR) to jointly explore and use outer space for peaceful purposes.
"The agreement will enable the KISR to use data from Indian remote sensing satellites for research and application projects, training, building and launching remote sensing and communication satellites on commercial terms," an official statement said.
The agreement will lead to setting up a joint working group with members from both organisations to draw a plan of action, including a time frame to implement it.
The cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Cooperation with KISR through this agreement will lead to developing a joint activity in the application of space technology for the benefit of humanity, including sections and regions of the Gulf kingdom," the statement noted.
The agreement will also provide impetus to explore newer research activities and application possibilities in the field of remote sensing of the earth, satellite communication, satellite navigation, space science and exploration of outer space.
