The Egyptian and United Arab Emirates' (UAE) embassies in Libya's capital Tripoli were targeted by two car bombs Thursday, but no casualties were reported, sources said.
The first car bomb explosion hit the Egyptian embassy in Al-Dahra area, causing considerable damage to the front of the embassy building and the surrounding houses, Xinhua cited a source as saying, adding that the second explosion hit the UAE embassy building, also causing material damage.
The ambassadors of both the countries had left Libya months ago because of the escalating violence in the North African country.
The two explosions come after similar attacks Wednesday in the eastern city of Tobruk, where the Libyan parliament is located, and another attack on an airbase gate in the eastern city of Bayda. The two car bomb explosions killed six people and injured at least 20 others, according to medical and military sources.
Also Sunday, another car bomb attack took place in the eastern city of Shahat, where the UN-recognised Libyan interim government is based, causing no casualties. The attack came as Libyan Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thinni was in a meeting with UN envoy to Libya Bernardino Leon.
