A group of cattle smugglers who murdered a volunteer of a cow protection group in Haryana two years ago are still on the run.
The kin of Vikrant Yadav want to know when the men involved in the brutal August 25, 2013 killing here would be caught.
Vedpal Yadav, the victim's father, said the then Congress government had promised the status of a "martyr" to his son besides Rs.50 lakh in compensation and a government job to one of his daughters.
"The government did not fulfil even one promise," the senior Yadav said.
Vikrant Yadav, 22, who worked with a private bank in Delhi, was the only son in farmer Vedpal Yadav's family which also had four sisters, said Surender Yadav, an uncle of the deceased.
Surender Yadav told IANS: "The BJP, now ruling Haryana and nationally, Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, RSS, ABVP, the Bharat Swabhiman Trust, Arya Samaj and others had protested when Vikrant was killed.
"Now none of them are coming forward to help."
Rao Inderjit Singh, the then Congress Gurgaon MP, had promised to have the promises fulfilled. "Now Singh is in the BJP and a union minister but refuses to listen to us."
Minister Singh could not be contacted despite several efforts.
Police arrested Tahir, 32, one of the suspects in the murder, on August 29 from Uten village in Mewat district close to Gurgaon.
"Tahir named five people for the murder but only one person was arrested last month. The rest are still at large," Surender Yadav said.
Haryana Police have announced a reward of Rs.10,000 for information leading to the arrests of the killers. Several teams have raided numerous places but drawn a blank, a senior police officer told IANS.
Vikrant Yadav was hacked to death on August 25, 2013 while he was chasing a vehicle transporting cows for slaughter.
Volunteers of Gau Raksha Dal had protested here on October 8 demanding justice for Vikrant Yadav and submitted a memorandum to the authorities to be passed on to President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Justice, they say, is eluding them.
