The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has published data on taxpayers, number of PAN (permanent account number) holders and incomes disclosed in tax return filings, a finance ministry statement said on Friday.
"The government has published the income tax data, including income tax department's time series data, for financial years 2000-01 to 2014-15. It is a major step towards transparency and informed policy-making," it said.
The time series data gives details of direct tax collection figures, state-wise collections, contribution of direct taxes to total tax revenue, direct tax to Gross Domestic Product ratio, cost of tax collection and number of income tax cases disposed of.
The CBDT has also published data on incomes disclosed by various categories of taxpayers in their income tax return filings.
The data on the number of PAN holders in various categories, including gender-wise and age-wise, has also been published.
