The Central Bureau of Investigation Wednesday began a probe into the abduction of a schoolgirl who was whisked away from her home in Bihar's Muzaffarpur town, police officials said.
"A day after the CBI filed an FIR in the abduction of the school girl, investigation has been started in the case," a district police official said.
The 13-year-old girl, a Class 7 student in Muzaffarpur, about 70 km from here, was abducted Sep 18, 2012, from her home when she was asleep in a room on the ground floor. The abductors had removed the window grill to take her away.
The police failed to make any breakthrough.
Her parents repeatedly demanded a CBI probe.
"A team of CBI officials approached us and we have informed details of the case," said Atulya Chakravarty, father of abducted girl.
Chakravarty said his daughter was abducted by property dealers since he had refused to give up prime land in Muzaffarpur.
"CBI probe can solve the case because police have been under pressure to suppress the investigation by powerful people," he said.
The abducted girl's mother, Maitree Chakravarty said that with the CBI starting the probe now, they are hopeful of justice.
"Now, we are hoping for positive result in the case," she said.
The Bihar government early this year again asked for a CBI probe into the kidnapping after the girl's mother sat on a fast-unto-death demanding the recovery of her daughter.
The state government requested the CBI to reconsider its refusal to inquire into the case last December, and the CBI has now agreed to take up the probe.
Earlier, the state government handed over the investigation to the crime investigation department of Bihar Police. But her parents said they wanted only a CBI probe.
