CBI clueless in judge's wife murder even after a year

The CBI has not been able to solve the murder of Geetanjali Garg, wife of former Gurgaon chief judicial magistrate Ravneet Garg, even a year after the incident.

Geetanjali's father O.P. Aggarwal has now approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi for speedy justice for his daughter.

The 27-year-old Geetanjali was found dead in a park in the high-security police lines area July 17 last year. Her body had three bullet wounds.

The post-mortem report said one bullet hit her stomach while another hit her chin and pierced through her head and the third bullet injured her neck minutely.

Geetanjali's family accused Garg of killing her with his family's help after harassing her for dowry.

The Haryana government ordered an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) 15 days after the incident.

The CBI filed a case on charges of murder and other sections of the Indian Penal Code, and named Garg and his parents as the accused.

Geetanjali's family Thursday said there has been no headway in the case even after a year.

"Despite enough proof, the accused is being shielded," Aggarwal wrote in a letter to Modi.

"My daughter (Geetanjali) was murdered by her husband with a revolver registered in his name. He tried to hush up the matter and destroy evidence in connivance with the police in Gurgaon," he said.

"I am 68 years old and have been a social worker for a long time, but my efforts to get justice for my daughter have gone in vain. I have moved from office to office for justice, but to no avail.

"You are requested to look into the matter and ensure your support for speedy justice so that the common man's faith in the judiciary and the rule of law remains unshaken," Aggarwal wrote.

The CBI had also announced a reward of Rs.5 lakh for any one who provides proof in the case but the agency has failed to get any clue.

"We are investigating the case, but can't say how much time it will take," CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad told IANS.
