Centre let loose discredited CBI: Trinamool on Srinjoy arrest

The Trinamool Congress Friday accused the BJP-led central government of letting loose a "discredited CBI" after the agency arrested Trinamool Rajya Sabha member Srinjoy Bose in the multi-crore rupee Saradha scam.

"The CBI is a political tool used by the previous government to settle political scores. Now the BJP is doing an action replay. They cannot combat the Trinamool politically. They have tried and failed. So what do they do? Let loose a discredited CBI," Trinamool parliamentarian and national spokesperson Derek O'Brien said.

Bose was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his prima facie involvement in the Saradha scam, on allegations of criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of funds and deriving undue financial benefits.

The Trinamool has been up in arms against the CBI which took over the probe of the scam in May following a directive by the Supreme Court.

Besides, the CBI the Enforcement Directorate which too is probing the scam has grilled many Trinamool leaders including a host of Rajya Sabha members.
