The urban development ministry has made over two crore calls to reach out to citizens in 75 cities being surveyed under Swachh Survekshan.

The move came as to include citizens' feedback on the work undertaken since the launch of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-initiated Swachh Bharat Mission.

"The government is proactively reaching out to the citizens to ensure that the survey includes their feedback, and to guarantee a credible survey result," Praveen Prakash, joint secretary at the ministry of urban development, said on Wednesday.

"Citizens would get to opinionate on garbage collection in their area, sweeping undertaken, the number of community toilets and garbage bins installed, and to assess the work undertaken in their area on a regular basis," he added.

The official also urged the citizens of all 75 cities to proactively participate in the survey and be a part of governance.

"Swachh Bharat Mission can only become successful when it becomes a Jan Andolan," he said.

The independent assessment of the sanitation and hygiene conditions of the 75 cities, conducted by the Centre, has been completed in over 25 cities and in over 1,050 locations across the cities.

The citizens' feedback, being one of the three main assessment criterions, would affect the overall ranking of cities in the cleanliness index to be released on January 25 on the MyGov website.
