BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday said that the results of the Chandigarh local body elections were a clear endorsement for the demonetisation step taken by the Narendra Modi government.
The Chandigarh municipal poll results came out on Tuesday. The BJP won 20 out of 22 seats it contested, while its ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) won one seat. The BJP plus SAD won 21 out of 26 seats.
"The latest victory in Chandigarh is a clear endorsement by the public and it is clear that the opposition is doing petty politics over demonetisation," Shah said.
He said that the Congress has been reduced to an epitome of negative politics.
The BJP President pointed out that the party has performed exceptionally well in every local body and by-polls held after demonetisation of high value currency notes, which was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8.
"The public has fully supported the policies of Narendra Modi government. This is clear from the results of local bodies elections in Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat as well as the results of assembly and Lok Sabha by-polls," Shah said.
In the last elections, the BJP had won 15 seats, while the Congress got nine seats. This time around the Congress could bag only four seats.
