Chelsea beat Sporting Lisbon 1-0 at the Alvalade stadium here, to go top of Champions League Group G.
Nemanja Matic's 34th minute header from a Fabregas free-kick looped over goalkeeper Rui Patricio Tuesday night, reports Xinhua.
Chelsea almost took the lead in the second minute through Brazilian attacker Diego Costa but his effort was saved Patricio.
Andre Schurrle wasted several chances and was very close to scoring in the 15th minute after a pass by Oscar, but Patricio once again came to the rescue.
Though Sporting improved in the second half, it was Chelsea who dominated throughout the match.
Chelsea gained three points, and sit two points clear of second place at top of the table.
