Ramesh Chennithala, state Congress president, is likely to be inducted in the Oommen Chandy cabinet in Kerala.
Speaking to IANS, Chief Minister Chandy said this was on the cards for some time.
"I do not rule out the possibility of this. He (Chennithala) has to make the decision," Chandy said.
The Kerala assembly session is due to begin Jan 3.
This development took place in the presence of Defence Minister A.K. Anthony, who is in the city for the past two days.
Earlier in the day, Anthony broadly indicated the state Congress would turn a new leaf in the New Year.
