Churchill Brothers defeated Mohun Bagan 2-1 and advanced to the semifinal of the 35th Federation Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here Thursday.
All the goals came in the first half. While Balwant Singh and Anthony Wolfe scored for the winners, Odafa Okolie reduced the margin for the Kolkata outfit.
In the two of their earlier Group League matches, Churchill Brothers had scored early. They managed to live up to the tradition as they took the lead in the fourth minute with an unmarked Balwant Singh heading in Thangjam Singh's corner.
The early goal inspired Churchill further. Lenny Rodrigues and Abdel Hamid Shabana shared the workload in the midfield well, stifling their opponents.
