The three BJP-governed municipal corporations in Delhi will Sep 6 launch a 15-day cleanliness drive in the city that will focus on back lanes and vacant plots.
The drive will focus on back lanes, vacant plots in residential colonies and spaces around rail tracks, under flyovers or near parks etc. where people often dump garbage, Bharatiya Janata Party state unit president Satish Upadhyay said.
"Special stress shall be laid on sanitation in unauthorised and resettlement colonies," he said.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) drive will precede the "sanitation and health drive week" to be held Sep 25-Oct 2.
Upadhyay, who is also chairman of the standing committee of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), said the campaign will fix responsibilities of both municipal officials as well as councillors.
"They will have to carry surprise checks in their areas during the drive and it will be their job to ensure that at least two colonies are cleaned daily," he said.
The officials will be "critically appraised" on the basis of their work, he added.
The three units of the MCD are the North Delhi, South Delhi and East Delhi municipal corporations.
