Jerusalem, Nov 6 (IANS/EFE) Israeli police arrested 16 Palestinians for disrupting public order following clashes with the police in Jerusalem, officials said Thursday.
With the latest arrests, the number of Palestinian detainees has risen to 188 over the past several weeks, a police official said.
The latest clashes erupted Wednesday evening in Jerusalem between Palestinians and Israeli police following the funeral of a Palestinian who was shot dead after he rammed his car into a crowd of people in Jerusalem Wednesday, killing a border guard.
The Palestinians and Israeli police battled in the districts of Silwan, Shuafat, Wadi Joz, Abu Tor and Lions Gate, where the incident took place.
The Palestinians fired rockets and hurled firecrackers at the police who responded with gunfire.
Three Israeli soldiers were also injured when they were deliberately run over near the Jewish settlement of Gush Etzion, the Israeli military said.
