A five-feet-long 'agitated' cobra was rescued by the Wildlife SOS from the National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR) near the JNU campus.
The snake, found entangled in a synthetic net outside the nursery at NIPGR, is currently under observation and will be released into its natural habitat once deemed fit.
"The distressed snake was attempting to extricate itself from the synthetic mesh but without much success," a Wildlife SOS official said.
The cobra was stuck in the fencing around the enclosure of the nursery on Sunday.
About 2,500-3,000 snakes are rescued from different areas of Delhi every year. The places from where snakes are rescued include 7, Race Course Road, and Rashtrapati Bhavan.
According to the experts, the sighting of snakes would increase with the rains.
Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said, "Synthetic netting in gardens, swimming pools and football fields cause thousands of fatalities to wildlife. Unsuspecting reptiles, birds and small mammals often get entangled and trapped and choke to death."
The cobra was found to be unhurt and will soon be released back into its natural habitat.
