World 100-metre silver medallist Christian Coleman broke the 60 metres indoor world record at the Clemson Invitational track meet.

His performance on Friday took 0.02 off the world record of 6.39 that was set in 1998, and then equalled in 2001, by compatriot Maurice Greene, reports Xinhua news agency.

"WORLD RECORD!! 6.37s. Great start to my career. Thank You God." Greene wrote on his social media.

Coleman's previous best was 6.45 seconds at last year's US collegiate indoor championships.
