Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) on Monday said it upheld complaints against 134 advertisements across healthcare, education, food and beverages, personal care and other categories in July.
"In July 2016, ASCI's Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) upheld complaints against 134 out of 183 advertisements. Out of 134 advertisements against which complaints were upheld, 44 belonged to the healthcare category, 44 to the education, followed by 24 in the food and beverages, eight in personal care and 14 advertisements from other categories," the Council said.
The advertising industry watchdog said claims of 44 advertisements in healthcare products or services were "either misleading or false or not adequately/scientifically substantiated" and hence violating council's code.
"Some of the health care products or services advertisements also contravened provisions of the Drug & Magic Remedies Act," the self-regulatory council said.
The council said that most of claims in food and beverages and personal care category were "not substantiated with proof of efficacy".
