Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) president Alfredo Hawit has agreed to be extradited to the United States where he faces corruption charges.
Hawit is accused of accepting bribes from sports marketing companies amounting to several million dollars for the sale of marketing rights for broadcasting soccer tournaments in Latin America, reports Efe.
The former FIFA vice-president was arrested in the Swiss city of Zurich last December 3 following a request from the US, and has been held in Swiss detention since then.
After his first appearance before the Swiss police, Hawit had refused to be extradited to the US, which forced the Swiss Federal Department of Justice and Police to ask Washington to submit an official request.
However, he accepted his extradition on Wednesday, and the Swiss judiciary will be able to deliver him to the US without further complications.
According to Swiss law, the soccer official will be handed over within a period of 10 days to the US police officers here.
