The Congress core group headed by party chief Sonia Gandhi met before the cabinet Thursday cleared a group of ministers' proposal to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh, said informed sources.
According to the sources, the meeting was held at the official residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with senior ministers.
The Congress core group also discussed the strategy for the winter session of parliament which started Thursday and will go on till Dec 20.
The BJP, high on its projected victory in state polls, could make things ifficult for the government which is keen to pass some important bills.
The results of the four assembly polls - Chhatisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi - would be out Dec 8. Vote counting in Mizoram will be be held Dec 9.
