Congress on Wednesday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the steep hike in LPG cylinder prices, saying the government was betraying its promises to people.
"Ordinary Indian is being ripped apart by Modiji by midnight extortion as LPG cylinders hiked by Rs 86 and small cylinder by Rs 30.50. Acche Din?" tweeted Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.
The "whopping rise" in prices "tells us that this Suit Boot ki Sarkar's promises to the common man were all gas and betrayal", he added.
State-run oil marketers raised the price of non-subsidised cooking gas (LPG), which customers buy after exhausting their subsidised quota of 12 cylinders in a year, by a steep Rs 86 per cylinder effective from Wednesday.
