The Congress will fight the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections on the basis of its "current strategy", party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Tuesday in response to reports that party vice president Rahul Gandhi was set to be its chief ministerial candidate in the state.
"Congress party has a firm and focused agenda for Uttar Pradesh," Scindia said on Tuesday, in response to a question whether Gandhi was likely to be its face in assembly elections in India's most populous state.
According to media reports, the poll strategist of Congress for Uttar Pradesh elections Prashant Kishor has suggested that Rahul Gandhi be made the party's face.
"All decisions related to Uttar Pradesh have been taken by Congress Working Committee, Rahul Gandhi is the vice-president of the party... We are very confident of our current strategy for Uttar Pradesh," he said.
Uttar Pradesh will witness assembly elections in 2017.
