The Congress on Thursday expressed its unhappiness over the government rejecting the amendments to the Finance Bill 2017.
The amendments were proposed by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference here, party spokesperson Rajeev Gowda said the government has the capacity to arm-twist, extort and misuse the tax system.
"The tax authorities can target anyone they choose," he said.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, during the Budget speech, made the announcement that he was going to proceed in the direction of electoral reforms.
"He had said that he would improve transparency, clean up political funding and would implement the Election Commission's suggestion on cash donations," he said.
He also expressed concern over the government removing limits on corporate donations.
"Now with the new introduction of the electoral bonds where donations can be made through cheques, corporates can also buy these electoral bonds in designated bank and give those bonds anonymously to political parties," he said.
"You have now created a situation where you open the flood gates for corporate donations and corporate takeovers of political parties," he added.
