The badly mutilated body of a Saharanpur corporator was found in the city Monday, police said.
The deceased, identified as Sanjeev Jain, did not return home Sunday and the family thought he had gone to a relative's place to attend a function scheduled that night.
His mutilated body, bearing several injury marks from blunt objects, was recovered from the Chilkana area of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, an official said.
"By seeing the body, it appears that someone attacked the deceased with brutality and an intent to kill," the official told IANS.
The police has sent the body for post mortem and is investigating the possible reasons for the killing, including political or business rivalry and property dispute.
