The Indian Army on Monday said a Court of Inquiry has been set up for a detailed investigation of a woman officer's complaint of sexual harassment.
The woman officer of the Signal Corps, posted at Alwar in Rajasthan, filed a sexual harassment complaint against her commanding Officer of her unit, a defence statement said, adding a standing committee led by another woman officer was constituted for preliminary investigation after the complaint was received.
"On completion and submission of report by the Standing Committee, a Court of Inquiry has been convened for detailed investigation of the case. Based on findings of the Court of Inquiry, appropriate action will be taken as per law," it said, adding the army remains committed to upholding highest standards of ethical behaviour by all ranks and ny instance of such misdemeanor awill not be condoned.
The complainant is one of the women officers who marched in the Army contingent at Republic Day this year, when India showcased its woman power of the forces.
A handwritten complaint by the officer cites at least 10 incidents of sexual harassment.
Her father has also written to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar urging him to take action.
