One of two criminals who tried to loot a man on a street was overpowered after a shootout with the police here on Wednesday that left a constable injured, police said.
Superintendent of Police Akash Tomar said the criminals on a scooter tried to loot a person in Vijay Nagar. The victim, however, called the police control room which flashed the message on the police wireless.
In the meantime, a police patrol noticed two persons rashly driving a scooter. They were told to stop.
Instead, one of them opened fire at the police team, injuring Constable Irshad, and tried to flee. The police personnel fired back. One of the criminals sustained a bullet injury in his leg and was nabbed.
The arrested criminal was identified as Mursaleem alias Murli of Farukh Nagar. He was an active member of "D-50 gang". He was said to be involved in over a dozen criminal cases.
