A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer was killed and a trooper injured in firing by guerrillas in Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar Wednesday.
Police said militants fired pistol shots from close range at a CRPF unit deployed on patrol duty, injuring an assistant sub-inspector and a constable on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road near Nowgam Chowk Wednesday evening.
The assistant sub-inspector later succumbed to his injuries.
"The injured trooper has been removed to the army's base hospital in Srinagar. It appears to be a hit and run attack by militants," a police officer said here.
Senior CRPF and police officers reached the spot immediately after the incident.
