Cuba has accepted an invitation to take part as guest in the 2014 Caribbean Series to be held in Margarita Island, Venezuela, Feb 1-7, said Cuban Baseball Federation president Higinio Velez.
Cuba will be represented by Villa Clara team, champion in the 52nd National Series 2012-2013, Velez said, reports Xinhua.
The 2014 Caribbean Series, to be organised by the Caribbean Baseball Confederation, will have the champions of the professional leagues from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
The 2014 Caribbean Series edition might include the winner of the Latin American series played by teams from Colombia, Nicaragua and Panama.
Cuba won seven of the first 12 editions of Caribbean Series, since its inception in 1949. But Cuba has skipped the event since 1960 after the revolutionary government led by Fidel Castro banned professional baseball.
