Cuban triple jumper and World No.5 Ernesto Reve will miss the World Championships in Moscow owing to an old injury in his right leg.
"It is an old lesion and Reve won't have time to get recovered for the world championships to begin on Saturday," Reve's coach Ricardo Ponce was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
The 21-year-old Reve, world youth silver medallist in 2010, suffered the recurrence of the injury while competing at the Brazil circuit during the preparation for the meeting in Moscow, according to the coach.
"We didn't want to take the risk to see if he got recovered for the championships. Anyway he is very young and has a great future," Ponce said.
Reve made his best jump with 17.46 metres on March 17 in Havana, only surpassed by his countryman Pedro Pablo Pichardo (17.69m), American Christian Taylor (17.66m), Frenchman Teddy Thamgo (17.47m) and American Will Claye (17.47m).
Reve was one of Cuba's hopes for at the worlds.
