Russian rider Ilnur Zakarin won Wednesday's Stage 17 of the 2016 Tour de France cycling tournament, a 184.5 kilometre (115 mile) mountainous run from Berne to Finhaut-Emosson.

The Team Katusha rider completed the stage in four hours, 36 minutes and 33 seconds, reports Efe.

He was followed, 0:00:55 later, by Colombian Jarlinson Pantano (IAM Cycling) and 0:01:26 later by Polish rider Rafal Majka (Tinkoff).

Briton Chris Froome (Team Sky) retained the yellow jacket and extended his lead in the overall individual time classifications by 0:01:47.

Dutch rider Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) ranked second place overall, 0:02:27 behind Froome.

Briton, Adam Yates (Orica-Bikeexchange) ranked third place, 0:02:53 behind the leader.

Thursday's Stage 18 of the Tour features a 17km (10.5 mile) mountain time trial from Sallanches to Megeve.
