The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday said that it would further act against people who fomented trouble in Dadri leading to the lynching of a Muslim man on rumours of beef eating, after a report concluded that the meat found in his house was mutton.
PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav said that the report of the veterinary officer had proved beyond doubt that the meat kept in the fridge of Mohammad Akhlaq was mutton, not beef.
"We have always been saying that the entire episode was triggered by communal people led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and we will in future too will deal with them with a firm hand" he said.
Earlier in the day, Noida's deputy chief veterinary officer had in his report to the state government inferred that the meat found in the house of Akhlaq was mutton and not beef, as rumoured.
"To the best of my knowledge and proper physical examination, prima facie it appears that the meat was of goat progeny," he wrote in his report. He further added that further verification of the inference can be obtained from forensic tests.
