Danish heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) company Danfoss Wednesday inaugurated its $100 million production and research facility near here to cater to the domestic and overseas market, a top company official said.

The facility also includes a 1MW solar power plant that would meet 10 percent of its power needs.

"The new facility would cater to needs of domestic as well as Asia Pacific markets," Niels B. Christiansen, president and CEO, told IANS.

According to him, India is a high growth market for the $5.5 billion turnover Danfoss and the Indian facility would become an export hub for Asia-Pacific markets.

The solar power panels is expected to generate around 1.5 million units per annum and is part of the group's global plan of cutting out its carbon footprint by 25 percent by using renewable energy to the extent of 25 percent by 2025.

Some of the key features of the new facility include energy efficient structural glazing, re-use of construction waste generated, use of recycled material, insulated roofs to minimize heat ingress, roofs with natural lighting and a courtyard (2x500 Sqm) inside the administrative building.

The new campus also houses a learning centre to facilitate knowledge transfer about refrigeration, air-conditioning and commercial compressor products, applications and technologies to customers and industry stakeholders.

Danfoss sees good prospects in the cold chain sector in India.

"Our new campus will focus on refining Research and Development capabilities that will help us serve customers better. It will provide an impetus to customers as local manufacturing will make solutions more cost effective and ensure speedy delivery," said Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss India.
