Global 3D experience major Dassault Systemes on Tuesday announced the commencement of the first and second batch of the Aerospace and Defense Centre of Excellence (CoE) at its '3DEXPERIENCE FORUM 2017' event here.

The first two batches will have 50 students undergoing one month-long foundation course.

The company is also planning to launch an advanced course of four months on overall Aircraft Design and Development process, Structural Engineering and Equipment Engineering.

"India is expected to emerge as the world's third largest aviation market by 2020 and there will be a significant demand for skilled workforce in Aerospace R&D, manufacturing, assembling, maintenance, warehousing and training facilities," said Samson Khaou, Managing Director, Dassault Systemes India, in a statement.

The CoE was set up at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in association with the Karnataka government.

"We are delighted to have collaborated with the Government of Karnataka and VTU in this journey to achieve this common goal," Khaou added.

In February, Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology Services (KBITS), a state government enterprise, and Dassault Systemes signed a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard, aimed at increasing the employability of students and the professional skills of the aerospace industry in the country.

"The CoE in Aerospace and Defence will ensure that the competitive advantage of Karnataka as the aerospace hub is retained and strengthened further," noted Commodore Balaji, Chairman, Aerospace and Defence CoE.

With the theme 'Digitalisation powering the future of Indian industries,' the '3DEXPERIENCE FORUM 2017' focuses on industry challenges and power of digitalisation for business performance in the country.
