Davis Cup debutant Daniel Brands won the men's singles against Thomas Bellucci 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 to help Germany keep a spot in the World Group of the elite tennis tournament by wrapping up a 3-1 victory over Brazil.
Sunday's win secure the hosts' spot in Wednesday's World Group draw in London, reports Xinhua.
Phillip Kohlschreiber and Florian Mayer established a 2-0 lead in the two opening singles rubbers. However, Brazil reduced the arrears in the doubles as debutants Martin Emmrich and Brands lost to Bruno Soares and Marcelo Melo 3-6, 4-6, 4-6.
Nevertheless, Brand recovered from the doubles loss to overpower Bellucci in three sets. Mayer completed Germany's 4-1 victory with a 6-4, 6-4 over Brazil's Rogerio Dutra Silvia.
As a consequence Brazil slipped into the second tier while Germany stay in the World Group.
