The Delhi Assembly on Wednesday passed three bills, including the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (Amendment) Act, 2015.
The DUSIB bill introduced in the assembly by Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday aims to rehabilitate dwellers of slums which came up between 2002 and 2006.
Sisodia, while moving the DUSIB bill in the assembly had said: "This will improve the condition of slum dwellers in the national capital. Now time has come when slum dwellers should get their due and should not be used just as vote banks."
"Rehabilitation of slum dwellers is among prime focus of the AAP government," he said.
The DUSIB bill amends the section 2(g) of DUSIB Act to facilitate rehabilitation of "Jhuggi Jhopri Basti".
This amendment will cover slums which might have come from March 31, 2002 to January 01, 2006 for the purpose of rehabilitation.
The two other bills passed on the second day of the assembly's budget session are the Delhi Netaji Subhas University of Technology Bill, 2015 and The Delhi Members of Legislative Assembly (Removal of Disqualification Amendment) Bill, 2015.
The Delhi Netaji Subhas University of Technology Bill, 2015, aims to give the status of a university to Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology.
The Delhi Members of Legislative Assembly (Removal of Disqualification Amendment) Bill, 2015 introduced by Law and Justice Minister Kapil Mishra on Tuesday and passed on Wednesday seeks to amend the Delhi Members of Legislative Assembly (Removal of the Disqualification) Act, 1997 by inserting the word 'Ministers' after the words 'Chief Minister' in the Delhi Members of Legislative Assembly (Removal of the Disqualification) Act, 1997.
The 1997 Act was enacted as a law in order to exempt certain offices from being disqualified for being chosen as, or for being, a member of the legislative assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
