Delhi Chief Secretary M.M. Kutty was on Tuesday appointed Additional Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs in the Union Finance Ministry.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of the bureaucrat, whose relationship with the Delhi government had been strained over various issues.
Two months back, when the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government locked horns with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) over the Metro fare hike, the government had accused Kutty of not heeding Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's direction to order an inquiry into the hike and alleged that "he is working with the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)".
"The behaviour of the Chief Secretary makes it obvious that he is taking orders from the BJP and is acting against the elected government of Delhi which is unconstitutional and undemocratic," the Delhi government had said.
Earlier, the Delhi Assembly's "question and reference committee" had sent a show-cause notice to Kutty for allegedly not following its directive.
Kutty later got a stay from the high court on the issue.
