Delhi court asks CBI to submit documents in DA case against Virbhadra

A Delhi court hearing a disproportionate assets case against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Tuesday asked the CBI to submit documents pertaining to a preliminary inquiry registered in the matter.

Special Judge Vinod Kumar's order came on a plea filed by Virbhadra Singh, alleging that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) did not furnish to him a complete copy of the first information report (FIR) in the case against him and his wife.

The court asked the CBI to submit to it the preliminary inquiry documents by December 2, the next date of hearing, when the court is likely to decide on Virbhadra Singh's plea.

In his application, Singh urged for directions to the central agency to file a complete copy of the FIR in the case.

The chief minister said that the annexures, as mentioned in para five of the FIR, were not sent to the court along with the FIR copy.

Virbhadra Singh inspected the judicial records of the case in pursuance to court order dated September 28.

In June, the CBI initiated a preliminary inquiry against Virbhadra Singh and his wife on the charge of acquiring assets disproportionate to known sources of income during his tenure as the union steel minister.

The case was registered on September 23 under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the former union minister, his wife Pratibha Singh, LIC agent Anand Chauhan and an associate Chunnilal.

The CBI raided Virbhadra Singh's residences in Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, including Holly Lodge in Jakhu Hills of Shimla, on September 26 while he and his family were busy with his daughter's marriage.
