A court here has dismissed a plea by Telangana Police seeking to take with them suspected Maoist ideologue Kobad Ghandy, accused of propagating activities of the banned CPI-Maoist in the capital, court sources said on Tuesday.

Additional Sessions Judge Reetesh Singh last week rejected the plea of Telangana Police seeking to take Ghandy with them to face trial in a case pending against him there.

Telangana Police told the court that Ghandy was required to be produced before a local court in Mahabubnagar district.

The plea was opposed by the public prosecutor contending that the trial against him here was in the last stage.

"In view of the submissions made by the additional public prosecutor for the state, the prayer made in this application cannot be granted at this stage," the court said.

According to police, Ghandy was involved in setting up a network of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist in Delhi. He was arrested here on September 20, 2009 while undergoing treatment for cancer.

The 65-years-old Ghandy, along with co-accused Rajender Kumar alias Arvind Joshi, is facing trial in the case.
