Acting on the directions of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Water Minister Kapil Mishra on Saturday held a meeting of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials and asked them to prepare an action plan for rooting out corruption from the department.

In the meeting, it was decided that the officials would prepare a detailed action plan for increasing transparency in the department and submit it to the chief minister within the next four days.

Earlier this week, Kejriwal had sought action plans from his cabinet ministers about how they would root out corruption from their respective departments.

Mishra said that though DJB had done phenomenal work in laying new water pipelines, framing pro-people water amnesty scheme across Delhi, there have been many complaints related to corruption in bill payments, new water connections, slow installation of piped water supply and repair of water pipelines.

"This is unacceptable. I am going to personally crack down on this using whatever method possible and ensure that citizens don't suffer because of us," he said.

Mishra, who is also the DJB chairman, pitched in the idea of removing government interface and improve transparency for water connections, grievance redressal and bill payment.

"We have to ensure that the DJB works at par with the highest standards of transparency and institutional efficiency to ensure that the common citizen experiences government in a way they have never done before," he said.
